What were you taught about religion?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 04, 2008:
I was raised as a Christian, within the Presbyterian branch, and upbringing was fairly typical in many ways, but it was always stressed that it was my choice to attend or not. My understanding of religion shifted as I grew from literal belief to agnosticism and at each stage I found teachings that fostered my growth.
The minister I had for most of my time as a Christian offered an outlook that helped to preserve a healthy relationship with Christianity. He was open about doubts he had and his humanistic stance was vital in shaping my views once I had left the church.
